Looking to replace all or most of your teeth? Find out which type of dentures is right for you.

Tooth loss can be devastating; especially when it’s so severe that it affects the majority of your smile. But don’t fret! Our Mount Prospect, denturesIL dentist, Dr. George Mui, has many ways to replace your missing teeth to help regain a full smile. Find out more about the different types of dentures you could choose from.

Traditional Dentures

These dentures are probably what you picture when you hear the word “dentures”. A full set of false teeth is attached to a gum-like base that sits on top of your gums. Through suction these dentures are able to stick to the tissue for stability; however, dentures are not real teeth and so they can slip around in your mouth, particularly when chewing or speaking. It can usually take up to four visits to get traditional dentures.

Immediate Dentures

Just as the name suggests, immediate dentures are actually designed prior to the extraction of your teeth. When immediate dentures are given, the patient will come into our Mount Prospect dental office for teeth extractions and then walk out with a set of false teeth. These dentures are designed to go right over the gums immediately after an extraction. While some patients are happy with their immediate dentures, there are some issues that may appear over time that may require the patient to get standard dentures.

Implant-supported Dentures

Many times patients aren’t too thrilled to find that their dentures have difficulty staying in place. But if your mouth is healthy enough, our Mount Prospect general dentist might recommend getting dental implants to support your dentures. Instead of dentures using suction to stay in place, implants will be surgically placed into the jawbone and used to stabilize a full set of dentures. While it can take several months to get implants, implants are designed to last many decades.
